Title:
Michigan to California in a Cessna 162 Skycatcher
Topic:
Cross Country Flight Planning
Brief Description:
In May of 2014 the speaker was tasked with delivering a Cessna 162 Skycatcher LSA from Michigan (near Toledo, Ohio) to Palo Alto, California for the new owner. The VFR-only Skycatcher performed flawlessly, but the 2500 NM journey was not without its challenges. Multiple weather systems brought clouds, low visibility, thunderstorms, high winds, and even tornadoes along the route.
In this talk we'll discuss flight planning, weather briefings, in-flight weather information, En Route Flight Advisory Service (EFAS), and working with ATC. We'll talk about alternates and, in general, how to plan for the unexpected. The talk includes photos, chart, and actual radar tracks to illustrate various aspects of the trip.
