Speaker(s):
Dan Dyer and others
Brief Description:
The CFI Round Table series is devoted to topics of interest to Bay Area flight instructors. The events are open only to flight instructors and provides a behind-closed-doors forum for CFIs to share success stories and challenges with other CFIs. The CFI Round Table series is hosted at San Carlos Flight Center but is open to any Bay Area flight instructor. Each month we take on one or two topics and share our individual experiences and lessons learned. This month our two topics are: Electronic Logbooks, and How to Teach Students Not to Be Dependent on ForeFlight.

Electronic Logbooks
More and more pilots are switching to electronic logbooks.  Have you considered switching yourself?  CFIs log hundreds of flights, so conceivably the convenience would be especially valuable.  How do you switch?  Where do you begin?  What do you do if your student uses an electronic logbook?  How do you endorse and electronic logbook?  Join us for a CFI-only discussion and if you have a favorite electronic logbook, be sure to share it with the group.

How to Teach Students Not to Be Dependent on ForeFlight
As electronic flight decks enter the cockpit, the risk arises of students becoming heads down focused on their iPad and not actually flying the aircraft.  How do you teach students to use the avionics installed in the aircraft for some things, but their iPad for other things?  How do you make sure that this valuable tool doesn't become a distraction?  Please join us to share your favorite tips and pet peeves regarding electronic flight decks.
