Brief Description:

This talk presents discussions of safety concerns, information resources, techniques, and other considerations for flying into the world-class back-country recreational airstrips of the Gila area of Southwestern New Mexico. The talk will include the New Mexico Pilots Association (NMPA) efforts, in partnership with the RAF, USFS, BLM, and the Aviation Division of NMDOT, in developing remote airstrips and in promoting safe back-country flying in the state.

Speaker John Lorenz is a 7000 hour Commercial pilot with CFII, MEII, and glider ratings.  He provides tailwheel transition training in a 1942 Interstate S1A “Cadet”.  He is the current Safety and Education chair for the NMPA.  Now retired, in a former life he made a living as a geologist.
