It is a scenario every instrument pilot hopes to avoid: you are low, slow, circling to land in marginal weather, and you suddenly lose sight of the runway environment. Executing a go-around from a straight-in approach is standard practice, but going missed from the visual segment of a circling approach introduces a dangerous cocktail of high workload, aerodynamic risk, and complex geometry. Join us for this interactive safety seminar where we pull back the curtain on the geometry of the circling missed approach.
We will dissect the critical requirement to make an initial climbing turn toward the landing runway, explore how to maintain obstacle clearance when your heading does not match the approach plate, and analyze real-world case studies to identify common psychological traps like "landing expectancy."
