Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):

You are in command of your airplane flying IFR from Vero Beach VRB to Clearwater Airpark CLW at night. Sky conditions are perfect VMC. You are handed off to Tampa Approach over the Lakeland (LAL) VOR and are vectored, as expected, to transition over the top of TPA from East to West so as to not conflict with their North flow operation. Unfortunately, this puts you in a compromised position as you are now flying toward CLW nearly perpendicular to its one and only runway. Tampa solicits your IFR cancellation and you oblige.

The runway at CLW is aligned 16/34. There is NO Aerodrome Beacon, NO published Instrument Approach Procedure to provide navigational guidance, NO Runway End Identifier Lights and only Medium Intensity Runway Lights. Furthermore, the runway is surrounded by urban sprawl meaning the runway is effectively camouflaged from your view.  How do you intend to FIND that needle in a haystack?

Join us tonight as we solve the problem of navigating effectively by Gathering the Dots...to Connect the Dots in the spirit of compliance with 91.103 Preflight Action. You may discover that there is a whole lot more to it than meets the eye in what appears to be a routine approach to a runway in VFR weather conditions...at night..

(In Guam/Chamorro Time only, event will be 18 MAR at 12:00.) Mahalo nui loa to Bob Katz for presenting this event.
