Topic:
Let's Get Acquainted with Randolph Air Force Base and the Numerous Routes and Training Areas in Central Texas.
Date and Time:
Saturday, June 24, 2023, starting at 10:30 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Lt Col Tim (Bear) Young, 12th FTW Safety Officer
Brief Description:

POSTPONEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT -

The Randolph AFB Civil Fly-In event scheduled for this Saturday, 17 June 2023 has been postponed to next Saturday, 24 June 2023.  Aside from this change in date, all prior registrations, PPRs issued, and the schedule of events remains unchanged.

Smoke from controlled agricultural burns in Mexico are impacting ceiling and visibility across south Texas. Our weather team assesses that conditions will continue to worsen through Saturday, pushing ceiling and visibility below VFR minimums during our planned arrival window.

As eager as we all are here at Randolph to have the pleasure of your attendance, we make this determination with the safety of our guests in mind.  We apologize for any inconvenience or conflicts that this decision to postpone will cause any of you.

As always, we are eternally grateful for your interest, your patience and cooperation throughout the registration process.

Randolph Air Force Base has a rich history and critically important mission in preparing pilots for the defense of our Nation.  Many of the training activities share the same airspace that we, General Aviation, utilize all over Central Texas.  The 12th Flying Training Wing is hosting this event to build on the positive relationship that exists between the Air Base and the Central Texas Community, and to increase the awareness of the Pilot Community to the Air Force Activities in the area.

While the improved Community Relations is important, it is an increase in Safety of Flight that is the ultimate goal of this event.  As the airspace becomes more crowded and more aircraft are going GPS-Direct, the potential for encounters with other aircraft increases.  Learning how and where the Randolph training aircraft operate can improve your Situational Awareness and make it easier to avoid some of these high-traffic areas.
