This is the first of three safety seminars on Saturday, January 28, 2023 that will review essential piloting skills and knowledge, and present material pertinent to safe operation of aircraft.

Aircraft performance is more than just manipulating the controls. It begins with an understanding of aircraft systems, knowing the aircraft's design limits, assuring that the aircraft is airworthy - including required documents- and is operated within its design envelope. Aircraft performance is a critical factor in successfully managing in flight emergencies. Factors to consider include density altitude, weight and balance, turbulence (including wake turbulence), and aircraft configuration. The seminar will review the need for pilots to maintain excellent situational awareness, monitor aircraft instruments, manage aircraft performance, and exercise good decision making skills in emergency situations.

A brief self evaluation quiz will be completed by each participant throughout each seminar to assess their understanding of material and concepts.

This seminar is made possible by the generous efforts of the Aviation Department of Big Bend Community College.
