Title:
Angle of Attack Indicators!
Topic:
The Use of Angle Of Attack Indicators Would Significantly Reduce the Number of Stall/Spin Accidents
Date and Time:
Thursday, April 14, 2022, starting at 19:00 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Robert Breaux, Ph.D., CFII
Brief Description:

In this FREE one-hour session, the audience will be asked to discuss:

- Wings stall when the critical angle of attack is exceeded.
- Airspeed indicators and stall warning systems are useful but imprecise ways of alerting pilots to impending stall conditions.
- The use of angle of attack indicators not only gives pilots precise knowledge of impending stall conditions but also provides guidance for the most efficient approach and climb angles of attack.
- General aviation aircraft owners should consider retrofitting angle of attack indicators.
- Regular proficiency training and practice in stall awareness and stall recovery, with or without angle of attack indicators, is essential to preventing stall/spin accidents.

Thanks to our speaker Robert Breaux.

The FAA endorses the concept that more frequent stall training & practice reduces the risk of stall/spin accidents.  They also heartily endorse Angle of Attack Indicators as an affordable technology to reduce stall/spin accidents.  This seminar will review stall aerodynamics, discuss Angle of Attack (AOA) Indicators and offer some proficiency training recommendations.  Instruments are now integrated in a host of multi-function displays.  It’s wonderful to have so much information in one place, but it can also be quite confusing if you’re not thoroughly familiar with operating and interpreting the displays.  If Angle of Attack information is vital wouldn’t it be great to have a dedicated source of AOA information?  AOA is the go-to place when workload and stress are high and airspeed is decreasing.

Thanks also to Karen Kosciusko at the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) for use of their new Administrative Offices, to FAASTeam Reps David Conrad for registration and door prizes, to Obie Young, Florida Aviation Network, a FAASTeam Industry Member, to Eric Mason, FAASTeam Service Provider.
