Title:
NAFI - PIlot Training From A Mechanic Presented By Paul New
Topic:
Pilot And Lifelong Aircraft Technician Presentation Of Topics Which Are Often Ignored Or Taught Incorrectly.
Date and Time:
Wednesday, February 16, 2022, starting at 19:00 Central Standard Time (17:00 PST; 18:00 MST; 20:00 EST; 15:00 HST; 16:00 AKST; 18:00 Arizona; Thursday, February 17, 2022 01:00 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Paul New, Karen Kalishek
Brief Description:

Paul New has been both a certificated pilot and aircraft mechanic (A&P/IA) for decades and was recognized as the 2007 National Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year.  During his decades of experience both flying and fixing aircraft, Paul identified mechanical issues that he felt were lacking in typical pilot training. His presentation covers topics that as a mechanic he wishes instructors would teach, or change what they currently teach.

Considering the long-term impact of primacy, it is important to present accurate training that is based on facts rather than hear-say.  Pilots can find it very difficult to break away from beginner procedures when they upgrade to higher performance aircraft and/or aircraft ownership. Therefore, it is beneficial to expose even beginning pilots to a greater depth of knowledge and the possibility of more complex operations in their future.
