In 1967 the Apollo Project launched the first Saturn V vehicle from the Kennedy Space Center preparing to put a man on the moon.

Brief Description:

IAM is pleased to host Dean Karafa on Thursday, October 21, at 7pm as he speaks about the Apollo 11 mission 

Dean was a test engineer for the first stage of the Saturn V for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center.  The Saturn V was, and is to this day, the most powerful rocket ever launched and necessary to complete a manned lunar mission. Dean will present a number of artifacts, from the program, including the actual countdown document from the Apollo 11 mission, as well as slides showing various aspects of the Saturn V.

Directions to Venue:

From I-55 go North on Weber Rd. to Clow Internationl Pkwy (called Veterans Pkwy to the East). Turn left (west) and proceed to the Airport Parking lot. Parking is available in this lot or go past the STOP sign and follow the taxiway to the back parking lot. The Illinois Aviation Museum is in the northern most hangar facing the runway and it across the taxiway from the military Jets on display.  There are new brown signs directing you to the museum.
