Title:
Getting Ready for Another Summer of Florida Flying Weather!
Topic:
Are you ready for a summer of Florida flying? The NWS will review what we need to know in order to have a safe season of flying.
Date and Time:
Thursday, April 15, 2021, starting at 19:00 Eastern Daylight Time (16:00 PDT; 17:00 MDT; 18:00 CDT; 13:00 HST; 15:00 AKDT; 16:00 Arizona; 23:00 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Tony Cristaldi, Senior Forecaster at NWS-Melbourne
Brief Description:

Our friend, Tony Cristaldi, Senior Forecaster from the National Weather Service - Melbourne, will discuss the NWS' role in providing aviation products and services, not only at a national level, but more importantly for us, at the local level, including the history of aviation services at NWS Melbourne. Tony will give us a primer on Florida summer thunderstorms geared for pilots, discuss coverage and distribution patterns of storms and how these patterns are dependent upon variations in temperature, moisture, wind regimes, based largely on the position of the subtropical high pressure ridge. Especially important for new and old pilots alike, Tony will discuss recognition and avoidance of hazardous weather types.

The FAA Orlando FSDO, along with your Treasure Coast FAASTeam, would like to thank our friends at the National Weather Service Melbourne office and our presenter, Tony Cristaldi, for their time and expertise in making this presentation possible. Tony Cristaldi is a Senior Forecaster and Aviation Program Leader, born and raised in upstate New York. Tony began his career with the NWS at the Albany, NY office in 1992, transferring to Melbourne in 1994 as a General Forecaster. Promoted to Senior Forecaster in 1998, Tony has been a long standing Aviation Program Manager at NWS Melbourne and works extensively with weather satellite applications in forecasting.  A fun fact about Tony: he flew in a NOAA P-3 Hurricane Hunter Aircraft into Tropical Storm Helene (2000) in the vicinity of Cuba.
