Mechanics, like most pilots, are human and prone to mistakes. Every year someone dies or loses their airplane because of because of incomplete or incorrect maintenance. While it's the mechanics job to perform the maintenance and paperwork, it's your job as a pilot to determining whether the aircraft is in a condition for safe flight and that the aircraft has been approved for return to service.
