Brief Description:

This presentation introduces and discusses content in the May/June 2020 issue of the FAA Safety Briefing magazine. The May/June 2020 issue focuses on the importance of proper communication in aviation and its critical role in furthering safety. Feature articles include a refresher on the basics of good “aviation” grammar, how to use correct phraseology to avoid confu­sion or misunderstandings, and how to best leverage the technology and equipment at your disposal to maximize communication efficiency and accuracy.

NOTE: While many of the ideas covered in the quiz are included in the presentation, you may need to download a copy of the magazine from: https://www.faa.gov/news/safety_briefing/ to complete this course.

PRESENTERS

SUSAN PARSON

Before joining the FAA in May 2004, Susan Parson was a diplomat in the State Department's Foreign Service with overseas assignments in Panama and Bangladesh. She decided to pursue a lifelong passion for aviation by starting flight training in 1991, eventually earning ATP and instructor certificates and working part-time at a Leesburg Virginia flight school.

At the FAA, Susan serves as editor-in-chief for the FAA Safety Briefing magazine, FAA team lead for the Airman Certification Standards project, and special assistant to the Flight Standards Service executive director. She has authored nearly 200 General Aviation Safety articles and several online training documents and courses.

 

PAUL PREIDECKER

Paul has been a flight instructor for 30 years, and has logged more than 7800 hours of flying time. He retired from Air Wisconsin Airlines, where he held the positions of Chief Flight Instructor and Captain. In these roles, he served as an Aircrew Program Designee, Line Check Airman, and was qualified as a simulator and ground school instructor.

Paul has served as a member of an FAA Aviation Rulemaking Committee, an invited speaker at the NTSB Symposium on Professionalism, and moderated at the World Aviation Training Summit for several years. He is a co-host of FAA Safety Briefing Live and is a regular contributor to NAFI MentorLive. Paul is also a frequent speaker at aviation conferences and serves as a board member for NAFI.

Paul is president of his own company, FlightDeck Insights (paul@flightdeckinsights.com) . As an experienced aviator and teacher, Paul contributes to aviation safety by blending SOPs and best practices between GA and Part 121 operations.
