Title:
Interactive Instrument Flight Procedure Development Session Featuring an IFR Chart Clinic
Topic:
How Instrument Flight Procedures are Made and What is the Process of Getting Them at my Airport
Date and Time:
Wednesday, December 17, 2025, starting at 19:00 Eastern Standard Time (16:00 PST; 17:00 MST; 18:00 CST; 14:00 HST; 15:00 AKST; 17:00 Arizona; Thursday, December 18, 2025 00:00 GMT)

Brief Description:

Join us for an interactive session that guides participants through development, implementation, and commissioning of Instrument Flight Procedures. (IFPs). We'll explore the four essential elements of ongoing procedure maintenance and walk through the full certification pathway for Runways, Heliports, and Vertiports - including night operations and how Hughes secures an official FAA LOCID (location identifiers) for an aerodrome.

Participants will learn how Hughes evaluates Runways/Heliports, categorizes obstacles, engineers airspace, completes the Environmental Process, and conducts Flight Inspection and Validation activities.  The session also includes a detailed look at VGSI (visual glide slope indicator) commissioning and maintenance, including PAPI (precision approach path indicators) and VASI (visual approach slope indicators) systems.

We will examine the benefits and differences of NextGen vertically and non-vertically guided approaches - LPV, LP, LNAV/VNAV, LNAV (Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance, Localizer Performance, Lateral Navigation/Vertical Navigation, Lateral Navigation)  - and compare them with legacy procedures such as VOR and ILS.  We'll also introduce A-RNP, (Advanced Required Navigation Performance) including trajectory-based RF (Radius-to-Fix) flight segments that support advanced performance-based navigation.

Integrated into the core presentation is an IFR Chart Clinic designed to deepen your understanding of instrument charts.  We will navigate the nomenclature, symbology, and standardized charting conventions that define today's IFR products. Learn how chart information is organized, interpreted, and derived to accurately represent the Instrument Flight Procedures you fly and evaluate.
