Title:
NAFI 2025 - Simulation Based Flight Training - At the PPC Education Center
Topic:
The Superior Instructional Paradigm: Simulation-Based Flight Training
Date and Time:
Friday, July 25, 2025, starting at 09:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Scott Manley
Brief Description:

By way of animated PowerPoint slides, video recordings, and live demonstrations of flight simulation software, the audience is taken through a lesson on “how to land a glider” and shown how simulation-based flight training leverages each of the Laws of Learning to maximize both the learning and teaching experience. Topics include: a brief overview of teaching/learning theory, the application of this theory to flight training, the inherent time/cost efficiencies and dramatically improved efficacy of simulation-based flight training, training venue options, minimal instructional equipment requirements.

PRESENTED DURING THE EAA AIRVENTURE FLY-IN.  NO FEE FOR THE NAFI PRESENTATIONS, BUT AN ENTRANCE FEE IS REQUIRED BY EAA AIRVENTURE TO ENTER THE GROUNDS.

Scott Manley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of Wisconsin and has more than 50 years of teaching experience. He provides year-round simulation-based online flight instruction to glider rating candidates nation-wide, and consultation services to flight training organizations and individuals interested in adopting this paradigm. Since 2008 he has provided over 400 hours of aircraft-based flight training and more than 5000 hours of simulation-based flight training, most of which has been done at-a-distance (over the Internet). He holds Certificated Flight Instructor privileges for the glider category. The back of his pilot certificate reads: Commercial pilot: airplane single-engine land & sea; instrument airplane, glider.

NAFI would like to thank EAA for making the theater and space in the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center available for NAFI's presentations, member and pilot support during EAA AirVenture 2025.
