Title:
NAFI 2025 - Why Good Pilots Make Bad Decisions - At the PPC Education Center
Topic:
Workload Equation: Why Good Pilots Make Bad Decisions Under Pressure
Speaker(s):
Dr. Piortr Dlugiewicz
Brief Description:
First spotlighted in aviation by NASA researchers during the 1970s – 80s, mental workload and its ties to training and performance now sits at the heart of human-factors science. Much as “energy management” clarified stick-and-rudder flying, reframing cockpit events through the lens of overall, mental, and cognitive workload exposes patterns that standard instructor approaches miss. In this session, we’ll unpack how stress, fatigue, skill, and knowledge interact to raise or relieve cockpit workload, and we’ll translate the theory into hands-on strategies you can apply tomorrow. You’ll leave with a practical pilot’s toolkit that turns “manage your workload” from a cliché into a concrete, trainable discipline.
PRESENTED DURING THE EAA AIRVENTURE FLY-IN. NO FEE FOR THE NAFI PRESENTATIONS, BUT AN ENTRANCE FEE IS REQUIRED BY EAA AIRVENTURE TO ENTER THE GROUNDS.
