A Standardized Method for Conducting Instrument Approaches
Brief Description:
This presentation will share techniques adopted from over 25 years of flight instructing, based on processes advocated at a regional airline, aircraft manufacturer, and various GA safety groups. These methods include how to effectively transition from the enroute to the terminal environment. Defining what are the key tasks to be performed outside the final approach fix to ensure you are stabilized and ready for a missed approach. A technique will be shared for preparing you mentally for the descent to DA/MDA and possible missed approach. Preferred callouts along the approach, including the decision to either land or go missed will be covered. Finally, exploring risks of autopilot mode changes in the AFCS scoreboard.

Air Corgi Flight Technologies was formed after Dean wrapped up his professional career in engineering and manufacturing. Dean has worked for Ford Motor Company, Vice President- Hawker Beechcraft Aircraft, Director- John Deere, and Strategic Chief Engineer Parker Aerospace, Dean has earned an ATP (SEL/MEL), CFI-I (SEL/MEL), and SF50 Type Rating. He also spent a brief period in the SkyWest First Officer program. He then moved into a flight instructing role at Elevate Aviation in Salt Lake City. At Elevate, he was a Cirrus Training Center Instructor (TCI) focused on clients seeking instrument training in the Cirrus SR2X series of aircraft. He later became typed in the SF50 Vision Jet, providing professional pilot services to their clients.
