Pilots are trained to read an approach chart—but rarely get to see how that procedure was created.
In this interactive chart clinic, Chris Baur takes pilots behind the approach plate to examine the obstacle-clearance surfaces and procedure-design criteria that determine where an approach can go, how low a pilot can descend and what happens after the missed approach point.
Using real-world examples, participants will see how buildings, towers, cranes, terrain and other obstacles can affect approach minimums—or potentially make an existing procedure unusable.
You may not be a TERPS specialist, but you will become a better chart consumer!
Aviation safety will be discussed, and is central to the content of this presentation.
