Title:
Hangar Talk Saturdays (KVNY) Multi Engine Emergencies and Critical Decisions
Topic:
Engine Failure Recognition, Vmc Awareness, and Emergency Decision Making in Multi Engine Aircraft Operations
Date and Time:
Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 09:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Richard Mend, CFI-AIM-ATP, FAASTeam Representative
Brief Description:

What happens when one engine suddenly stops producing power and the airplane begins yawing toward the failed side? Multi engine emergencies can escalate quickly and demand immediate, disciplined pilot action to maintain control and make sound decisions.

This seminar will review engine failure recognition, asymmetric thrust, Vmc considerations, single-engine performance limitations, and the importance of proper aircraft control during abnormal situations. Participants will discuss practical emergency procedures, common pilot errors, and real-world scenarios that demonstrate how preparation, proficiency, and situational awareness affect outcomes during high-workload events.

Why Attend:
What happens when one engine suddenly stops producing power? Multi engine emergencies require rapid decision making, disciplined aircraft control, and a strong understanding of aerodynamic principles. Even for pilots who do not fly twins, the concepts discussed—including workload management, emergency procedures, checklist discipline, and loss of control prevention—offer valuable lessons that apply across all areas of aviation.

Space is Limited - Advance Registration Encouraged
Pre-registration helps ensure seating availability and supports timely FAA WINGS credit processing. Questions regarding the seminar may be directed to Richard Mend at 818-636-1021 or mendaviation@sbcglobal.net.

What to Bring:
Please bring something to take notes with (pencil and paper recommended). A light jacket is also recommended, as the seminar is held inside an airplane hangar and temperatures can occasionally be cool.
