Title:
Hangar Talk Saturdays (KVNY) - The Dirty Dozen - Human Factors in Aviation
Topic:
12 Most Common Mistakes Made by Pilots, Mechanics, and Controllers - Recognizing and Breaking the Error Chain
Speaker(s):
Richard Mend, CFI-AIM-ATP, FAASTeam Representative
Brief Description:
Could complacency, distraction, fatigue, or pressure be quietly affecting your decision making in the cockpit? The “Dirty Dozen” represents the twelve most common human factor conditions that contribute to aviation mistakes made by pilots, mechanics, and air traffic controllers.
Participants will review how issues such as complacency, fatigue, distraction, lack of communication, pressure, and poor teamwork can lead to breakdowns in safety and decision making. Real-world examples and aviation scenarios will be discussed to help attendees recognize how these factors develop and how they can be mitigated before they result in an accident or incident.
