Brief Description:

Departing and arriving in the SLC valley poses unique challenges when conducting IFR operations. We will discuss techniques for departing on a Standard Instrument Departure (SID) or Obstacle Departure Procedure (ODP). How to use elements of these procedures to pick up your clearance, when departing airports VFR without these procedures. We will also review arrival procedures to SLC and other airports in the valley. Various clearances will be discussed along with their meaning. Finally, we will cover some of the risks and opportunities that a “vectors to final” approach pose.
