Speaker(s):
FAASTeam Representatives and Jurg Grossenbacher
Brief Description:

While aviation remains one of the safest modes of transportation, there are times when a pilot's inappropriate response to an unexpected event can lead to an incident, or worse, a fatal accident. This reaction is known as the "startle effect."

The FAA defines the startle effect as "an uncontrollable automatic muscle reflex, raised heart rate, blood pressure, etc., elicited by exposure to a sudden intense event that violates a pilot's expectations."

Loss of aircraft control is a common factor in those accidents that would have been survivable if pilots had maintained aircraft control throughout the emergency.

The workshop will be comprised of both classroom and simulator learning sessions. Come test your ability to handle the unexpected! EAA staff CFIs will be working with you so that you come away feeling prepared!
