Title:
Introduction to Weather
Topic:
Introduction to Weather and Basic Weather Concepts
Speaker(s):
Matt Carlson & Vinh Truong
Brief Description:
Every person operating as a Pilot, from ultralights through airliners, needs to have a solid understanding of weather. A sudden change in weather may be an inconvenience on the ground, but can become a tragedy in the air. The challenge we face is that weather is a vastly complicated subject. It is possible to spend multiple lifetimes in various careers under the “umbrella” of weather.
This course aims to introduce us to some basic weather concepts, and how we can leverage the knowledge of those who DO have careers in weather to keep us safe in flight.
Two major resources we will be using are:
1. Aviation Weather Handbook (FAA-H-8083-28A), available for free as a pdf from the FAA.
2. The website: aviationweather.gov
