Title:
Constant Speed Propeller and Horsepower
Topic:
Understanding Horsepower and it's Relation to RPM and a Constant Speed Propeller
Speaker(s):
Matt Carlson & Vinh Truong
Brief Description:
We may be familiar with a Constant Speed Propeller, and we might even be asked to explain this system in a checkride. While the basic reasons that an aircraft may have this type of propeller are well known, we will discuss the relationships between a Constant Speed Propeller, Horsepower, and basic engine design. How and when we utilize the horsepower of our engine can make important differences during critical phases of flight. Understanding the mechanical function of our engine and propeller will make us more smooth and safe pilots.
