Title:
Dangerous Student Errors in Helicopter Flight Training
Topic:
We Will Go Beyond Common Mistakes in the Helicopter Flying Handbook to Examine Less Frequent, but more Safety-Critical Errors
Brief Description:
This seminar will focus on recognizing, anticipating, and preventing dangerous student errors during helicopter flight training, with an emphasis on the Robinson R22 and R44. Unlike the common mistakes already covered in the Helicopter Flying Handbook or maneuver guides, this session will highlight the less common but far more safety-critical errors that can lead to incidents and accidents.
Drawing on instructor experience, incident reports, and accident data, the presentation will provide practical teaching techniques such as cyclic and throttle guarding strategies, error anticipation, and effective recovery methods.
Participants will also engage in open discussion, sharing lessons learned and strategies for safer instruction. The goal is to strengthen each instructor’s ability to defend against high-risk errors before they escalate into accidents.
