Title:
New England Aviation Safety ZOOM - Everything Your CFI Never Taught You About Aviation Oxygen
Topic:
Learn How Using Oxygen In Flight Can Increase Safety And Sharpen Awareness, Why Following 91.211 Isn't Enough To Keep You Safe
Date and Time:
Tuesday, August 19, 2025, starting at 19:00 Eastern Daylight Time (16:00 PDT; 17:00 MDT; 18:00 CDT; 13:00 HST; 15:00 AKDT; 16:00 Arizona; 23:00 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Scott Ashton
Brief Description:

The use of supplemental oxygen in the cockpit is generally not discussed in flight training except for the memorization of FAR Part 91.211. Oxygen usage is typically associated with higher performance, turbocharged aircraft flying, or flying over mountainous terrain. For most general aviation pilots the use of oxygen can be mysterious. But stories of hypoxia and how insidious the effects of oxygen deprivation can be, are plentiful.

This seminar will review the use of supplemental oxygen, some of the physiological aspects of hypoxia, how to detect it in flight, and why supplemental oxygen use can enhance safety by increasing awareness, reducing fatigue, and eliminating that “wiped out” feeling you might get after a flight. The seminar will be presented by FAASTeam Rep, CFI-I and aircraft owner Scott Ashton, President and CEO of Aerox Aviation Oxygen Systems, LLC, a Florida-based manufacturer of certified aviation oxygen systems.
