Title:
Cautious Optimism
Topic:
The Evolving Aviation Job Market and Relevant Safety Concerns
Date and Time:
Wednesday, June 4, 2025, starting at 17:30 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Chris Johnson, PhD, CFI, CFII, MEI
Brief Description:

Several high-profile accidents shook the world of aviation safety in the first quarter of 2025, raising many safety concerns:

1) aging air traffic control infrastructure;

2) growing demand for travel and increasing traffic congestion;

3) drones, air taxis and urban air mobility (UAM) vehicles;

4) a shift in workforce demographics.

That said, this safety seminar will be lead by former Embry-Riddle Professor, Dr. Chris Johnson, PhD, CFI, CFII, MEI, who will discuss the evolving landscape of the aviation job market and reveal the relevant safety concerns that require attention. Specifically, new modes of air travel are coming online in the next 5-10 years with urban air mobility being powered by distributed-electric propulsion, remote sensing, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, and this seminar will highlight some of the safety challenges confronting younger pilots that are replacing Baby Boomers who are retiring en mass.
