Title:
Sopwith Camel Flying Club Presents
Topic:
TSA Flight Training Program Compliance and CFI Ramp Inspections
Speaker(s):
Crystal Hazeltine, Eric Romero - TSA Inspectors
Brief Description:
Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs) and flight schools can be exploited by individuals seeking to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out catastrophic attacks using general or commercial aviation aircraft, as seen in 9/11. To help prevent this, the TSA conducts inspections to evaluate compliance with the Flight Training Program requirements under 49 C.F.R. §1552. This session, led by a TSA regulatory inspector, explains how TSA’s compliance mission supports aviation security by assessing and mitigating risk through partnership and enforcement. Attendees will learn what to expect during inspections and ramp checks, how to maintain proper documentation, and best practices for regulatory compliance. The TSA’s collaborative approach emphasizes constructive engagement with the aviation community to enhance safety and security for all.
