Title:
How is Your Preflight?
Topic:
Inadequate Preflight Preparation is a Contributing Factor in Aviation Accidents.
Speaker(s):
Joey Keahey, Lead Representative and Scott Gerken, Representative
Brief Description:
Ever taken off with the cover still on the pitot tube or the tow bar still attached to the airplane? Ever attempted to taxi only to find the wheel chocks still in place or forgot to put the oil dipstick back in after adding oil? If you’ve flown any length of time, you’ve likely missed something or know of someone who has. Perhaps it was due to complacency or being distracted by a passenger, a phone call, or a text message. Or perhaps you missed something because you never knew to check it in the first place.
In this informative discussion, we will explore preflights, why we do them, and how you can mitigate risks during the process. We will discuss commonly missed items as well as some things that perhaps you’ve never considered or knew to check. Missing something or lacking knowledge of what to look for might result only in embarrassment or lost pride. Or far worse, it could prove to be fatal.
Join us as we explore preflight preparation, the visual inspection, and the pre-takeoff sequence.
