Brief Description:

Howard Donner joins us to increase your odds of being rescued in the event of an off-airport landing or backcountry emergency. He'll cover essential survival communication methods, ranging from basic signaling strategies to the most advanced satellite systems for remote land, air and open ocean environments. You'll learn about:

  • Basic Signaling
  • Rescue laser devices
  • Marine-based solutions
  • ADS-B In rescue locations
  • PLB's
  • Smartphone satellite rescue systems (iPhone 14, 15, 16, etc)

This presentation will dive into what really works when it comes to rescue communications, focusing on the strengths and limitations of modern rescue tools so you can make the best choices for safety in the field.

Speaker Bio:

Howard is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in high-altitude and expedition medicine. A former emergency medicine physician, he has extensive experience as both a professional river and mountain guide and professional skipper. He is an author, Search and Rescue advisor, and former NASA Medical Operations Consultant. He is a certified flight instructor teaching largely out of Truckee Tahoe Airport and specializing in post-crash survival training for the “Finer Points of Flying” National Airplane Camps.
