Title:
FAASTeam May 2024 Topic Of The Month - Energy Management (Part 2 of 2)
Topic:
Part 2: Understanding Aircraft Energy Management Will Make You A Better And Safer Pilot
Date and Time:
Tuesday, May 21, 2024, starting at 17:30 Pacific Daylight Time (18:30 MDT; 19:30 CDT; 20:30 EDT; 14:30 HST; 16:30 AKDT; 17:30 Arizona; Wednesday, May 22, 2024 00:30 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Stephen Bateman, CFI
Brief Description:
This month's TOM is Part 2 of understanding the fundamentals of aircraft energy - principles, total energy, energy exchange, energy management, and how we use flight controls, including the throttle, to move our craft between different energy states.
We'll will apply the knowledge from Part 1 and will look at energy management applications, including usual (and not so usual) flight situations and scenarios.
A PDF of the Part 1 presentation can be found here: Energy Management Part 1 PDF
Learning Points:
- Proficiency in both fundamental and advanced maneuvers are the result of truly understanding the “energy equation” at any place and time
- We must build the competency, via training and proficiency, to effectively coordinate control inputs to achieve and maintain altitude and airspeed targets, and to recover from energy deficit situations
