Space Shuttle Airspace Concerns
This notice expired on
Monday, December 14, 2009

As a national asset and American icon the Space Shuttle, and NASA's Manned Space Flight Program, enjoy the protection and watchful eyes of Continental NORAD Region (CONR) warriors as part of the Operation NOBLE EAGLE mission.

For each shuttle launch CONR fighters fly air patrols at Cape Canaveral, and the greater Kennedy Space Center area, to help ensure this national treasure continues on its important journey.

Pilots that fly in these areas are reminded that military aircraft operations will increase during pre-launch activities and continue until the Space Shuttle reaches orbit.  These sorties may include low passes over airports in the local area or aircraft intercepts with fighter jets as we demonstrate our ability and determination to protect the Space Shuttle operations.

An attractive poster emphasizing GA awareness of Shuttle activity can be viewed or printed at https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2009/Nov/Shuttle.pdf.
