Topic:
VMC Scenario: As the Stomach TurnsIMC Scenario: Depatrure Woes
Speaker(s):
Jim Szajkovics, Tim Meyer
Brief Description:
VMC Question of the Month. When planning a VFR departure, particularly at night in higher terrain or when obstacles are present, what is the standard climb gradient that an aircraft is expected to be able to meet to clear obstacles? We will discuss how to interpolate the climb gradient chart and why this chart is so important.
IMC Question of the month: You’re being vectored for a localizer approach, have been given a vector to intercept the final approach course outside the final approach fix, and are cleared for the approach. The approach plate identifies no feeder routes, and specifies “NoPT.” A hold is depicted at the FAF with a notation of “4 NM”. At what point can you begin a descent to the published altitudes?

We view and discuss short videos presenting flight scenarios that any VFR pilot can learn from others. Members discuss short videos and how they would respond to the given scenario. This is an open Forum for free ideas and we all learn from Shared Experience! All are welcome to join in the discussion. Please register to get WINGS credit towards your next Flight Review for attending this event. These meetings use real-world scenarios to engage members, and allow a free exchange of information that improves awareness and skills. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency. Through the EAA VMC club programs, visual flight rule pilots have improved their proficiency, and they love it.
Sponsored by EAA Chapter 18, but you do not have to be a member or a pilot to attend.
