Title:
The Ups Downs and Arounds of Towing Banners - Rob Mark - Monthly Safety Meeting at PWK by CEPA
Topic:
Some Pilots Tow Banners Just to Log Hours, Others Do It to Improve Their Flying Skills, Some Both
Date and Time:
Wednesday, May 22, 2024, starting at 19:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Rob Mark
Brief Description:

Towing banners is usually done in slow, old airplanes. It demands a high level of skill, dealing with unpredictable weather, and all the risks of low-altitude flying. It's a career path for aviators seeking adventure, building hours, and willing to embrace the challenges of towing banners.

Speaker bio:

Rob Mark worked two jobs most of his life. He began his aviation career as an air traffic controller at PWK tower while earning various pilot certificates. Rob spent two summers towing banners along the Chicago lakefront.

He holds an ATP with type ratings in several jets. He left ATC to fly airplanes full-time and flew for Midway Airlines until they folded in 1992. He then focused on business aviation, that is until he realized he also loved telling stories about aviation and the people who make it work. That led him to write for Aviation International News, Air Line Pilot, the Chicago Tribune, AOPA Pilot, and Flying magazine. Rob was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2021.

CEPA’s purpose is to promote flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share their perspectives, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in instrument flying. Participate in this excellent forum where we think through the various options from the comfort of your chair, firmly on the ground... before it is you sitting in the cockpit.

We meet monthly when pilots (and would-be pilots) network and share knowledge and experiences to keep our heads in the game.

If you aren't yet a member of CEPA, please consider joining. Your dues help pay for these Safety Seminars.
