Title:
Traffic Two O Clock Three Miles Type Unknown
Topic:
Visual Traffic Separation and Collision Avoidance
Brief Description:
Pilots are responsible for seeing and avoiding air traffic. Visual scanning for traffic is the most common means to avoid collision. Pilots must commit to maintaining an effective traffic scan throughout each flight. Complacency and distractions can severely compromise traffic scanning effectiveness. ATC may provide separation services and assist in identifying traffic but the Pilots are primarily responsible for collision avoidance. ATC may issue Visual clearances to follow or avoid aircraft. When operating on Visual Clearances pilots must keep the referenced traffic in sight or, if they lose sight of the traffic, they must immediately inform ATC. There are numerous Collision Avoidance technologies available to GA Pilots.
