Title:
Overcoming Normalization of Deviance Bias In General Aviation Operations
Topic:
Overcoming Normalization of Deviation Bias
Date and Time:
Saturday, May 17, 2025, starting at 10:00 Mountain Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jim Barnosky ATP, CFII-ASMEL FAASTeam Representative
Brief Description:

Over time standards can erode.  This can result in acceptance of unsafe operations as a “new normal.”

The presentation will discuss the human factors contributing to Normalization of Deviation Bias and illustrate how this operational drift can compromise safety by looking at some accident case studies.  It will conclude by providing effective strategies to insure your flying stays within established standards, limitations and norms.

The presentation will also include a brief introduction to the FAA's WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program, and the new online Dynamic Regulatory System for easy access to all FAA regulatory materials.
