Title:
How an Engine Monitor Kept Me from Pulling the Chute
Topic:
The saga of an inflight engine failure, safe landing, the failure diagnostic process, and the resultant engine overhaul
Speaker(s):
Rhon Williams
Brief Description:
A seemingly routine flight from TOA to SEZ required quick decisions when the oil pressure started dropping rapidly. After safely on the ground, a failure analysis was performed looking for the cause. Diagnostics led to an engine overhaul which is fully explained, and sample parts from the engine are shown.
Rhon Williams is a FAAST Representative and holds Commercial-SMEL, Helicopter, Glider, and CFI-AI ratings as well as A&P Mechanic. He is co-owner of a Cirrus SR22. He is an active home-builder having completed a plans-built Early Bird Jenny which first flew in December 2015.

Note:
Pilot airspace deviations continue to be a major risk in the national airspace system. To reduce the chance that you might be involved in an airspace deviation incident, you are highly encouraged to take an on-line learning center course on www.faasafety.gov. Or search the learning library for associated guidance on airspace incursions. Remember, safe and prudent airmen have superior situational awareness, and have a plan to keep it that way.
