Title:
January Topic of the Month-Interruptions and Distractions
Topic:
Interruptions and Distractions-Managing Risks
Speaker(s):
Scott G. Newsome, FAASTeam Representative
Brief Description:
In this presentation we’ll discuss one aspect of Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM): dealing with distractions and interruptions, two hazards that we need to manage whenever we’re walking, driving a vehicle, or flying a plane.
We’ll cite some statistics on distracted driving and discuss how distraction led to the loss of an airliner. We’ll also talk about interruptions – a type of distraction that can be a significant hazard when it occurs in a critical operational phase.
As usual, we’ll offer some suggestions and best practices for dealing with distractions and interruptions
