Cold weather is not only uncomfortable, it adds another layer of complexity and care to the operation of our Beech piston airplanes. This program will cover type-specific preflight, ground operations and inflight considerations for cold weather operation, as well as some of the human factors associated with flying in the coldest months of the year, including:

  • When and how to preheat your engine 
  • The effects of cold weather on flight instruments
  • Winter baffles: should you use them?
  • Wintertime preflight inspection considerations
  • Engine and systems management in extreme cold
  • Operating on wet, slushy and/or snow-covered runways

THOMAS P. TURNER is an ATP and Flight Instructor with CFII and MEI ratings. A NAFI Flight Instructor Hall of Fame inductee, Tom has over 4,600 hours with 2,600 dual given, specializing in type-specific transition and recurrent training in high performance singles and light twins.
