Title:
EAA Chapter 129 IMC Club
Topic:
You Can Handle Just About Anything, Right?
Date and Time:
Saturday, October 3, 2026, starting at 09:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Captain Jay Allen
Brief Description:

With winter around the corner, are you ready?  The scenario: A pilot and passenger in a rented Cessna 172 are crossing the Pacific Northwest in typical October weather. They are watching for ice during a short cruise at 4,000 feet. When both spot ice accumulating on the airframe, the pilot requests a turn and descent. The descent cannot be approved immediately. Then, during the turn, new distractions demand the pilot’s attention.

How does a pilot go from feeling able to handle just about anything to facing a serious situation within minutes? Join EAA Chapter 129’s IMC Club to work through the decisions, distractions, and actions in this scenario. Captain Jay Allen will facilitate the discussion.

The purpose of EAA Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) Clubs is to promote instrument flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in instrument flying. EAA IMC Clubs are extensions to local EAA chapters and offer monthly IMC program meetings where pilots can network and share knowledge and experiences. Since 2017, instrument pilots have improved their proficiency through the EAA IMC club programs and they love it.
