Title:
Pilots And Medications
Topic:
Pilots and Medications
Date and Time:
Saturday, November 13, 2021, starting at 11:00 Central Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Dennis Miller CFI FAASTeam Rep of the year 2019-2020
Brief Description:

In studies published by the FAA Toxicology Laboratory, toxicology samples of deceased pilots indicated the presence of illicit drugs, and prescription or over-the-counter medications in 42% of the subjects tested. While NTSB and FAA have not necessarily cited drug or medication use as a causal factor in these accidents; the magnitude of these findings pose two questions:

1) Have the drugs found in recent investigations diminished the ability of pilots to safely conduct flight operations; and 2) Have the medical conditions requiring use of those drugs compromised the ability of pilots to fly safely? It is safe to say that a consultation with one's Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) is a good idea before flying while using any drug.
