I began flying in 1960 at age 16 in an Aeronca Champ. I went on to earn commercial and multi-engine ratings. I also held an Australian commercial pilot's license in 1966/67 and flew in the Austrailian Outback. I did no flying from about 1972 to 1988. I was an active free distance glider (sailplane) pilot for 12 years starting in 1988 (1,135 hrs) including FAI World Distance Award. I owned an LS3a 15 meter high performance sailplane. My longest free distance flight was 521 sm "as the crow flies". I ended my sailplane career with 63 Diamond Distance flights (500km+) and an altitude diamond of 25,000' in mountain wave. This quiet challenge has made me a better power pilot (situational awarness, weather, stick & rudder skills, etc.). I have been very active since 1988. I currently own and operate a Cessna T210L out of CRQ. I have attended two Mountain/Canyon Flying seminars in McCall Idaho and fly into the Idaho back country in my T210L for fishing and camping. I regularily fly into Telluride, CO (TEX @ 9,078') where I have a condominium. I am IFR current and participate in the FAA Wings Program. I'm 63 years old and counting. My semi-retired status will allow me to contribute whatever I can to General Aviation safety and enjoyment. I look forward to the challenge. |
