The objective of these free seminars is to provide an overview and to review the basic use of the various VFR and IFR chart and publication products.
The main focus is to:
· Broaden user chart knowledge.
· Re-enforce the need to fly with current charts and publication data.
· Provide an opportunity for chart users to ask questions.
Aeronautical charts and publications contain a wealth of information. Some of that information has never been taught, or has been learned but quickly forgotten. Reviewing and understanding chart information can save time, money, and sometimes lives.
Our speakers are aviation professionals who can bridge the gap between pilots and chart makers to make the seminar an enjoyable and productive safety oriented learning experience.
These highly interactive programs help answer those tough questions such as:
· What are the differences between TACs, WACs, and Sectionals?
· What am I flying over?
· Who's airspace am I flying in?
· How do I avoid TFRs?
· How come I get lost when I have the chart in front of me?
· What are the plans for new charting products?
Participants will review VFR and IFR chart products, Aeronautical Data Sources, current VFR chart changes, temporary flight restrictions, obstructions and MEF, VFR navigation techniques, classes of airspace and chart symbology.
Cliff Chetwin, CFI, FAA ASC, Regional Aviation Mgr., National Park Service will speak on TFRs, how they are used by controlling facilities, how to spot them and how to avoid them.
Scott "Sky" Smith, aviation insurance agent, author and lecturer, will talk about violations and incidents, how they are viewed by insurance adjustors as trends and their ramifications on pilot and aircraft insurance.
In addition, Ivan Pupulidy, FAA ASC, USFS Regional Aviation Safety Manager, and USAFR Command Pilot, will discuss aerial firefighting operations within the region and things you need to know to avoid a potential TFR violation.
This course is designed for student VFR, IFR candidates and graduate pilots to enhance enroute navigation proficiency, chart understanding and safety, while operating within the flight environment of the National Airspace System. The seminar format encourages interaction at all levels, whether you are a student, private or commercial pilot.
