This evenings meeting will start with a cookout at 5:00 PM by WAPA, FPA, thanks to both organizations. At 6:00 PM, FAASTeam and USAFR 439th Air Lift Wing will present a safety program. In the CT River Valley C-5A Galaxy aircraft based at Westover ARB fly missions daily. Collision avoidance in the air is one of the most basic responsibilities of a pilot flying in visual conditions, as well as wake turbulence. Just how do the flight crews of these military aircraft accomplish this? When do they fly? At 7:30 the AOPA, ASI will present a program titled," Weather Challenge at the same location. Military aircraft share the airspace with civilian aircraft everyday in the National Airspace System (NAS). It's no different in the Connecticut Valley where C-5A Galaxy aircraft based at Westover ARB fly missions daily. Collision avoidance in the air is one of the most basic responsibilities of a pilot flying in visual conditions. Just how do the flight crews of these military aircraft accomplish this? When do they fly? What routes and altitudes do they use? Where are their reporting checkpoints and how are they identified (e.g., where are the Spruce and Maple reporting points)? What radio frequencies do they use? Did you know that C-5s are not limited to UHF frequencies. Attend this informative briefing and get the answers to these and many other questions. Are you aware of the potential for mid-air collision and wake turbulence in the area? Attend this meeting and learn all you can about the local C-5A flying activities.
Get the answers to these and other questions you may have about the C-5's operating out of Westover. Please note: This is not intended to be a one-way street. This exclusive meeting is your chance to provide input, ideas, comments and suggestions from the perspective of a general aviation pilot flying in the Connecticut Valley. The goal is a safer operating environment for all through a mutual exchange of information.
Note: Rectrix FBO is waiving the ramp and service fees for the fly in attendees. Attendees arriving by auto, park in the airport passenger lot. You will not be charged upon departure.
