Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):

FAASTeam Flight Instructor Open Forums are sponsored by the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE).

Our thanks to the great folks at Million Air for once again hosting our Flight Instructor Open Forum.

This evenings topic is the non-elective maneuver associated with every flight called a "Landing". Local instructors and pilot examiners will compare notes on the teaching and evaluation of the various types of landings required by the Practical Test Standards (PTS). How do you teach your students to judge the quality of their approaches to ensure safe landings? How will they know what criteria dictate a go around maneuver? Just what do you teach them about how get the aircraft safely on the ground in varying or unexpected circumstances?

Doug Stewart, Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) and Chairman of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) will guide us through the learning process for landings.

There will be time for everyone to share their own techniques for teaching this sometimes elusive skill. Doug and other local DPEs will share experiences from recent practical tests and additional safety tips.

"Participation in this meeting does not result in credit for CFI renewal".

This discussion is an opportunity to collaborate and develop best practices, to mitigate the risks identified in the discussion, for both the instructor and the student. The result can enhance communication and standardization of the pilot training and evaluation processes.

Together as a Team, the Instructors and Designated Pilot Examiners can combine their extensive knowledge and experience with sound judgment to create and provide the most comprehensive and effective pilot training experience, followed by a reliable and effective evaluation.

The FAASTeam would like to thank the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) for their participation and contribution to the CFI Open Forum effort.
