This discussion is an opportunity to collaborate and develop best practices, to mitigate the risks identified in the discussion, for both the instructor and the student. The result can enhance communication and standardization of the pilot training and evaluation processes.
Together as a Team, the Instructors and Designated Pilot Examiners can combine their extensive knowledge and experience with sound judgment to create and provide the most comprehensive and effective pilot training experience, followed by a reliable and effective evaluation.
The FAASTeam would like to thank the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) for their participation and contribution to the CFI Open Forum effort and their strong support of aviation safety through education.
We also are extremely grateful to the folks at the Albany Million Air facility who have consistently supported local aviation educators and the FAASTeam by providing a location for our meetings.
This Flight Instructor Open Forum will be dedicated to situations which may occur during the approach and/or landing phases of flight. How can you prepare your students to make the decision to go-around? There are countless opportunities for an approach or landing to go bad, can we demonstrate all of them? Probably not, so aviation instructors must provide students with the knowledge and skills to recognize a potential hazard and Go-Around when necessary.
Doug Stewart, DSFI, Inc and Chairman of SAFE, Al Itani, Corporate Training Captain and CFI mentor, and Jim Leavitt of the FAASTeam will provide their insight on this critically important topic.
