What is the crosswind component? How is it different from a limitation? What is your airplane's demonstrated crosswind component? How can a crosswind hurt you?

This seminar will address the characteristics of the crosswind component; differentiate between the maximum demonstrated crosswind component and a limitation; present the maximum demonstrated crosswind components for selected airplanes; present NTSB statistics on crosswind accidents from 1/1/2000 to 9/1/2010 for the United States, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; present several crosswind accident and mishap scenarios then use determining crosswind component, both in the air and on the ground; demonstrate how to use the NTSB Database and create database queries; use NTSB database queries to identify airports with multiple crosswind accidents.
