Come out to Ft. Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport for a fun filled day of challenging interactive games for pilots of all types.

It is a fact that people better retain knowledge if they can actually apply it.  Instead of death by PowerPoint, the Colorado Aviator's Challenge has been developed to provide airmen with a fun alternative to dusting off those old skills and tidbits of knowledge that most of us have forgotten.

Not a test, this is an opportunity for you to challenge your memory and see how much you remember of the basic, common knowledge requirements necessary to qualify as a private pilot.

  1. Runway Incursion Avoid-O-Rama:navigate about our indoor airport under the direction of actual air traffic controllers and challenge your knowledge of airport signs and markings.
  2. Pre-flight Challenge: no airplane is perfect, especially this one. See how many discrepancies you can find.
  3. Basic Flying Knowledge Circuit: up to 8 stations with timed events, all basic questions from Airplane Flying Handbook, FAA-H-8083-3A and AIM.
  4. Finding Echo Sierra: Echo Sierra never made it to its intended destination.  Can you find ES using your basic flight planning skills?
  5. Cross Country Odyssey: with a prepared flight plan in hand, you will navigate to three different airports and through their corresponding airspace, without leaving the ground.

At each event, the participant will receive points.  The participant with the most points in each event will receive a prize.  the participant with the overall best score will receive the grand prize, a Garmin Nuvi 760 Automotive GPS.  Each participant keeps their own scorecard for the events and no scores will be posted except the overall winner in each event - only you will know how well you did!  And the best part is  these events are all free.

Each participant that completes all five events will receive 1.0 knowledge elective credit for the basic WINGS phase.  In order to ensure quick validation for the WINGS credit, you are urged to pre-register for the event on this website.

There is no special order to complete the events and each participant will have from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to engage in all the activities.  On average most events only take about 15 to 20 minutes for completion.

In addition to the challenge events, Avionics Specialists LLC, situated at 5297 Gulfstream Court, Loveland, CO 80538, will be holding an open-house from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Throughout the day they will host seminars from Aspen Avionics, Avidyne and Garmin.  Avionics Specialists will be giving away a new Garmin GPSMap 96C portable aviation GPS as a grand door prize at the end of the day.  Attendance to these seminars is free.

This Aviator's Challenge is being sponsored by the Ft. Collins-Loveland Jet Center, FNL Pilots Association, Avionics Specialists LLC, Thompson Valley Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, Specialty Flight Training Inc. of Boulder, your Denver FAASTeam, and the management at Ft. Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport.
