Brief Description:
We will discuss human vision in the context of the aviation environment and safety including: how our vision really works, night vision, lighting in the cockpit, external lighting, problems with vision, and strategies to optimize “seeing and being seen”. There will also be an interactive session with the audience for discussion of questions and concepts.

There is no cost to attend the safety event but attendees must be ticketed participants of the Burningman event to gain access to the location.
Dr. Crognale is currently a Professor in Physiological Psychology and the Director of the Program in Cognitive and Brain Sciences at the University of Nevada in Reno. He received his undergraduate degree from UC San Diego, his PhD from UC Santa Barbara, and postgraduate training at UC Berkeley. He currently conducts research in human electrophysiology of vision, comparative vision, and human factors in aviation. His research has been funded by NIH, NASA, and the FAA and has been presented at numerous meetings and conferences including Airventure (Oshkosh) and Sun n’ fun in Florida, and at FAA Safety meetings throughout Idaho. Dr. Crognale is a Commercial pilot with land, sea, and glider ratings and is a CFII. He also has a business consulting for aviation accident litigation and for conducting privately funded research.
