Multi-engine flying is exhilarating when everything is working, but can be hazardous (and terrifying) when an engine fails. To be safe every pilot needs to be well-trained and have current experience. MEIs training in this environment must maintain very sharp skills and carry the obligation of imparting accurate knowledge and techniques to their learners for lifelong safety.

Hobie Tomlinson will share his experience in flying (35 years with TWA) training (over 15K hours dual given) and testing (over 40 years as a DPE) and the methods he has found work best. He recently filmed a future training segment in twins for Community Aviation.

The FAA Multi-Engine Safety Review (ALC-30) was recently updated and is highly recommended as preparation for this webinar (a high-level discussion). The associated summary pdf is an excellent tool for multi-engine pilots and aspiring MEIs.

Hobie Tomlinson is a retired airline Captain who was with TWA (35 years) and American Airlines (2 years). He spent 14 years in the airline training department, including a stint as the TWA B747 Fleet Manager. After retirement he spent 8 years as a Training Captain and Director of Safety for a Part 135 Charter Company.

He holds Type Ratings in Boeing 707, 720, 727, 747, 757 & 767, as well as Lockheed L1011, Cessna 560XL, and Bombardier CL604. He also holds Class Ratings at the ATP Lever for AMEL. AMES, ASEL, and ASES aircraft.

He has been a CFI for over 56 years, was a DPE for 42 years (retired), and a has logged 40,500 hrs (and counting). Hobie has flown 1028 North Atlantic Crossings and given over 15K hrs of flight instruction. He was awarded National CFI of the Year in 2012.

SAFE CFI-PRO™ was derived from an FAA FSDO program that reduced flight training accidents by 60% in only two years! This program succeeded by requiring only one day of additional training for all new CFIs. These proven CFI techniques accelerate a new educator's abilities from "good to great" by sharing master instructor wisdom with new educators (mentoring). The previous SAFE CFI-PRO™ presentations are on the SAFE YouTube Channel.

SAFE (The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators) is an educational not-for-profit (501-c-3) professional organization with the mission of improving the aviation educational process thereby exponentially elevating pilot performance and aviation safety. Our major sponsor, ForeFlight, generously provides 1/3 off subscriptions for all SAFE pilot members. The free "SAFE Toolkit App" has resources for CFIs, pilots and even flight test applicants (Check-Ride Ready™).
